Early Discovery is devoted to finding innovative ways to develop the hearts and minds of young children. As part of this effort, we are developing a series of children’s books about living in harmony with the environment and endangered species. These books will be created in collaboration with young children during a series of workshops.
The workshops will be led by Nouzha Evans. She is the founder of Early Discovery and is finishing her Ph.D. in early education. Each workshop will introduce the children to simple ideas about the environment. The children’s discussion and interpretation of these ideas will be documented and incorporated into the books. Nouzha has spent years introducing children to the environment by using drawing, discussion and interpretation of nature. She has pioneered the use of collaborative storytelling with small groups of children at Early Discovery School in San Rafael. Her methods have received accolades from parents and interest from academic researchers. Most importantly, everyone will have fun!
Workshops will be open to children 3 to 13 years old. In each 3-session series, 6 to 10 children will participate in creating the story and artwork for a short children’s book. Children will receive author’s credit; Parents will have access to discounted copies of the book as well as photographic documentation of the sessions.
The first workshop held in September 2009 was successful and the first book of the series is coming out September 2010. The next series of workshops will be held in November of 2010.
The cost is $45 for a two-and-a-half hour session or $110 for a series of three sessions. Workshops will take place at the Early Discovery School in San Rafael.
This experience will stay with you and your child forever.
